Facts About Gorillas and Trekking in Uganda
Species
Uganda is home to the endangered mountain gorillas, one of the two subspecies of eastern gorillas.
Habitat
These majestic creatures reside in the dense forests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.
Population
As of the latest surveys, there are approximately 1,063 mountain gorillas left in the wild, with about half of them living in Uganda.
Social Structure
Gorillas live in family groups known as troops or bands, led by a dominant male silverback.
Diet
Mountain gorillas are primarily herbivores, feeding on leaves, stems, and fruit. They play a crucial role in their ecosystem by dispersing seeds.
